On September 21, 2025, the ECC-SDCO/S joyfully commemorated International Peace Day in Dasenech Woreda, South Omo Zone, under the inspiring global theme: “Act Now for Peace.”
The celebration brought together over 60 changemakers — herders, pastoralists, members of local peace committees, school peace clubs, government representatives, and ECC-SDCO/S staff — all united by one purpose: to strengthen the spirit of peace and solidarity within their communities.
The day opened with traditional blessings from community elders, setting a sacred tone for the program. The participants then joined in:
- A colorful peace walk, filled with vibrant slogans and traditional songs of harmony;
- Experience-sharing sessions highlighting the vital work of local peace committees;
- Open dialogues on peacebuilding, resilience, and cooperation; and
- Reflections on how unity and mutual understanding can pave the way for lasting peace.
- The gathering also explored the MAP Project, a flagship initiative advancing peace and sustainable development across the region.
In closing, the Sub-Branch Head of ECC-SDCO/S expressed heartfelt gratitude to all participants and urged continued commitment:
Together, the communities of South Omo rose in solidarity — for peace, unity, and a brighter tomorrow.
